Yesterday, we rode on the “Jet Raider” ferry to Waiheke Island.
I liked going to the vineyards and on the walks between them I learned how to eat a honeysuckle.
They were a great sweet snack! We found some unique shells on the beach. On the ride back to Auckland, our ferry boat (the “Te Kotkoue”) slowed down so we could see some Orca whales swimming nearby.
Today we went to Devonport, which is a small town just a short ferry ride from downtown Auckland. We rode on the “Kea” ferry.
When we got there, we went to Northhead, a military fort with guns and underground tunnels.
Then we went to the beach and climbed into a cool lava cave. Northhead was a volcano many hundreds of years ago. When we walked out of the cave, I gave my mom a surprise – a live mussel that I pulled off a rock in the water! We saw starfish, oysters, mussels, coral and hermit crabs. The water was really shallow, cold and clear, so we could see the animals.
I’ve enjoyed Auckland because of the way people commute on the water and the city itself because it has a lot of friendly people and great places to visit.
Wow! I too would enjoy commuting on a ferry…. It means you have beautiful water all around. I love honeysuckle as well!
Enjoy it all!!!
