I write this post to you from the place that has stretched us out of our comfort zone for the first time on this trip. It wasn’t the 22 hour flights or driving on the opposite side of the road (as the shotgun passenger I’m still trying to recover from the anxiety of having no control over the vehicle while sitting in what my brain tells me is the driver’s seat). No, it has been the three nights in the hostel that reminded me what a soft, pampered, middle class, middle-aged girl I am. Mitch and me both. Luke never batted an eye (probably because he gets to sleep on the top bunk).

I laugh as I write this, so don’t feel sorry for us. We chose the “budget option” when booking a room in Napier. This seaside town is cute and quaint and expensive. But when we arrived in our triple room, we had second thoughts. It’s the size of a prison cell with a bunk bed and a single. And we are right above the kitchen where Asians and Germans have been burning every meal since we arrived. It’s kind of hilarious.
So, I promised to blog about the good with the ugly, and here’s our first taste of it. It’s not always waterfalls and sunshine in New Zealand. Sometimes it’s sketchy hostels and smelly backpackers, too. Wait, maybe that smell is me. Better go stand in line for the shower. Love y’all!
Ahhhh, so you’ve left fantasy Athens?!? 😉 As long as you have hot showers…not feeling sorry for ya! 🙄

So happy y’all are getting out of the comfort zones. Funny how our young kids are more flexible than we are and see adventure in what we may see as annoyance. Enjoy every moment!
