It seems ironic to think that one of our most joyful stops on our journey was in an orphanage, but it’s true. The boys and girls have come from backgrounds so difficult I can’t imagine, but at First Love they have found a wonderful life of security, education, joy and love. The hearts of the children were full and happiness shown from their faces.
We visited their school and Luke got to attempt Swahili lessons. He also learned how to milk a cow! Mitch enjoyed helping with homework projects and studies, built the kids their own Giant Jenga game, and I sang myself hoarse with the smaller children teaching choir songs and playing games (and they braided my hair with wild abandon!). It was a lesson in the simplicities of life.
It was hard to say goodbye to these precious kids. I feel sure we’ll be back and I hope it’s soon.
